About

Belinda is a 22-year old woman with a diagnosis of schizophrenia. Her first episode of psychosis occurred when she was 19 years old. She is a regular patient in your clinic, however you haven't seen her previously.

Module 1. Weight management and diabetes monitoring

On completion of this activity, you should be able to:

  • Assess and monitor cardiometabolic and diabetes risk for patients taking an antipsychotic.
  • Discuss alternative pharmacological treatments in response to unwanted adverse effects from antipsychotics.

Module 2. Schizophrenia relapse prevention

On completion of this activity you should be able to:

  • Develop a schizophrenia relapse prevention plan.
  • Consider different techniques to improve medicines adherence.

Module 3. Sexual health and complementary medicine use

On completion of this activity you should be able to:

  • recommend appropriate contraceptive methods and cervical screening.
  • discuss potential interactions between St John’s wort and hormonal contraceptives.

Module 4. Management of alcohol and other substance use

On completion of this activity you should be able to:

  • discuss the risks of alcohol and substance use.
  • consider behaviour change relating to risky and hazardous drinking and substance use in order to reduce health risks.
